In this first episode, we'll travel to Goethe's birthplace in Frankfurt, visit his university studies in Leipzig and Straßburg. And we take a closer look at the impact his relationship to women had on his work. Finally, we discuss Goethe's defiance of death. This all serves as a background to the actual Italian Journey that took place between September 1786 and May 1788, which would redefine how German's look at Italy. More on this will become clear in later episodes of this series.
